According to Aimable Murera, in charge of research on farming and fishing in the western province; the economic commission in the senate did a research on fish farming and found that people who work in don’t have insurance yet they might have accidents anytime, they are p[aid little and in hands and have no work contracts.

This commission decided that these problems should be solved so soon and this is the main reason behind the meeting on the 18th.July.2012 to look for ways to solve them while fulfilling the wishes of the senate finance commission.

The captain of the fishing team should be given the gross salary of Rwf24.000 monthly while the fishers get Rwf16.000 and the salary will be passing through their accounts in a financial institution. Their leaders should however give them food as usual as Jean Bosco Sibomana the worker of Kibuye Fishing project explained.

He also said that fishers should have working contracts signed by their leaders and they should also be insured about the accidents they might meet with during their daily work.

In this meeting, fishers were explained that they will be paying 5.000 francs every year to SORAS insurance Company and in case of death or permanent disability, SORAS will be paying them Rwf500.000 for compensation and if they for an accident they will be giving Rwf50.000 for treatment.

Usually, these fishers had no permanent salary where they would be given about Rwf7.000 and take food ration by taking some of the fish they had fished and sell and sometimes they would steal them from their leaders.
