Jeanne Uwijuru, one of the shareholders in Bishenyi Chicken Farm (BICHIF) in Runda sector in Kamonyi district has said that chicken farming is profiting if given much attention.
BICHIF buys broiler chicks from Uganda, breed and raise them for meat production at the right time.
Chicken farming requires constant care to protect them from diseases. They are reared in five houses each containing 2500 chicken where they feed from and keep.
Broilers are ready for meat between 45 and 60 days of age and a kilo is sold at Rwf2100 in Kigali hotels, supermarkets and other places throughout Rwanda.
Jeanne Uwijuru reveals that ever since BICHIF started in 2011, they have constant market to an extent that they can sell 500 broilers a day.
Our chickens are approved by the RNBS and vaccinated before they cross the border from Uganda to Rwanda. However they are vaccinated again upon arrival at BICHIF.
Explaining about the achievements of BICHIF that started with nine members and Rwf30 million as capital, Uwijuru asserts that they are tremendously developing.
At BICHIF, we employ 19 workers and the company has started piggery as a way of expanding the business.
