Ruhango district farmers expect increased benefits from milk produce after the completion of a building to house a local dairy co-operative in Byimana sector.
This dairy was constructed by the farmers’ in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture (MINAGRI) in bid to improve revenues from milk products.
Cattle keepers say “Milk could go bad if our major customers from Muhanga district purchased less. That’s when we thought of building an up-to-date facility with equipment to preserve the milk for days at least,”says Alphonsine Mwubahamana, a farmer.
Ruhango rates number one among the districts with high milk production and cattle.
“A milk dairy is an opportunity to the cattle keepers since profits will be increased,” says Epimaque Twagirimana, vice-mayor for economic affairs in Ruhango district.
